Mock up after mock up have been done, measurements taken… and I’ve finally decided on the structure of the batteries, and where they will be.
There will be 8 Leaf cans strapped together into 16 Volt, 260 ah packs. There will be 9 of these for a total of 144 volts, giving me 37,440 Kwh in the vehicle. This should be more than enough to hit the 160 Km range that I’d like in the car. I’ve even found the room to put them in the car!
Now that the measurements have been checked and triple checked, it’s time to build some boxes. My welding is getting significantly better, and a lot faster, but still not perfect. After about 2 days of cutting (check out the cutting wheel pile) and welding they are finished! Then I stared opening up the rear of the car, but ran out of discs for cutting. The idea is to mount the rear box to the frame, with big bolts, and then access it through a door in the floor of the car. Both the battery box and the floor of the car will have water tight enclosures around them. There will need to be a few more days to get this stuff done.
